What is the RSE Publication Monitor about?¶
The RSE Publication Monitor is an online tool to show how much and in which context people at FZJ write about software. For this, the RSE Publication Monitor queries the JuSER database to find publications that mention certain keywords related to software. Based on this information, it is now possible to browse through correlations of keywords mentioned in these publications. It is also possible to find out how often different keywords are used in publications from different institutes. This tool can be easily extended to cover other keywords of interest and everyone is encouraged to design their own analysis. The code is publicly available and we are always open for collaborations and further ideas.
Recommended usage¶
On this website, you can browse through the number of publications from many different institutes. You can find a list of institutes in the main menu. For each institute, the corresponding sections are named. These links will direct you to statistics on the different institute sections and the number of publications, that mention software keywords, over time. Furthermore, these sites show correlations between keywords in publications from this institute section.
In case you want to conduct further analysis on the data, you are welcome to follow the instructions to create your own analysis. In case you run into problems or have ideas on how to extend the RSE Publication Monitor, feel free to contact us.
Limitations¶
The information and figures on this website are created automatically. There is no additional manual curation of the data. The data is fetched from the JuSER publication database and not validated aftwards. Therefore, the visualizations should be interpreted for trends rather than for precise numbers.
The statistics on keywords is not exact, in the sense that a full-text search for those keywords is performed rather than relying on metadata from JuSER entries. If a keyword is found, it may be used in a context not relevant for the RSE monitor. For example the keyword 'RSE' can be found years before its current established meaning, so likely referred to something different. Even if metadata (e.g. publication date) exists, it cannot be checked and may be wrong.
