What does this mean?
Since the RSE Publication Monitor is based on data found in JuSER, the quality of the displayed statistics reflects what is or is not possible with this database. Caveats are: The statistics on keywords is not exact, in the sense that a full-text search for those keywords is performed rather than relying on metadata from JuSER entries. If a keyword is found, it may be used in a context not relevant for the RSE monitor. For example the keyword 'RSE' can be found years before its current established meaning, so likely referred to something different. Even if metadata (e.g. publication date) exists, it cannot be checked and may be wrong. Also, institute names may change over time and show up with different abbreviations, both of which is not accounted for. If two institutes (Institute A & Institute B) are involved in a publication, the number of publications of Institute A is increased by one and also the number of publications of Institute B is increased by 1. But the overall number of publications is increased by one not by two.
Some aspects on the search in JuSER
According to the search guide for JuSER, the following statements are true for the search.
In JuSER, the search is not case-sensitive. Therefore searches for "Fortran" also find entries that only use "FORTRAN".
Furthermore, "when indexing a word, attention is paid to index it both with and without punctuation, so that you should be able to search for terms containing special characters, such as C++".
We tested these claims with some examples and the results seemed plausible. However, we cannot guarantee that these claims hold true in all cases.
